What the heck is wrong with our society?

I was in shock to read an article in the newspaper about a 31 year-old lesbian woman being attacked by a teenager. Yes a teenager...14 years old. He has been charged with aggravated assault.

That lady was out one night and a group of young men started to yell at her with homophobic slurs. And when one decided to jump on her it was not for hugs. The 14 year old boy viciously attacked her and broke her jaw and the bone below her eye socket.

She had reconstructive surgery and the doctors had to put two metal plates in her face. The doctors told her that she may have permanent nerve damage.

The worst part is that when the lady reported that incident to the police department, the police officer who took care of the file didn't finish and file his report before his shift ended and he went on days off; means that there was no record of the incident that was available to other officers.

I couldn't believe the nightmare that happened to that lady. To my opinion she was basically victim not only of one crime but two, by the 14 year-old boy who beat her and by the police officer who totally ignored her case.

There is so many stories that happened regarding homosexual citizens. What the heck is wrong with our society?!! Don't know but sometimes I really think that we are living in a "retard" and ignorant country. These people deserves the right to live like everybody else.

I have some gay friends and they are like you and me. No difference. Let them live the life they want to live and by the way, they deserve the same privacy like us and the same protection.

I've got 3!!!

Because I'm a total beginner in making a blog, there's lots of options that I don't know how to use yet. That's why I keep it simple! So tonight I decided to work on my blog when I realized that I had some followers!!! Believe it or not, I do!!! 3 people actually sign up to follow my stories!! I'm so happy!

So I would like to thank them personally for following "What I have to say today is" and to leave some comments. I'm not the perfect writer but hey! i like it! Hope that you will stick with me for a while! Thanks again!

My opinion: totally wrong

This morning I had to go out to run some errands. I didn't really feel to go in the big city so I decided to go at the grocery store that is situated in Beaumont. It's called a city but the population is around 10,000 people, big difference compare to Edmonton. It's a really nice friendly place. I lived there for 9 years. It's a place that anywhere you go you will always see somebody you know. That's the good part of it!

So yeah I went to the grocery store. I was pushing my cart and picking up what I had on my list. I turned the corner to go to the other aisle and there it was. The person just in front of me was covered completely from head to toe.

I tried to make eye contact but I didn't know if she was looking at me or not. I knew right away that it was a woman and that she was wearing a burka. I couldn't see her eyes cause' they were under that mesh. I was in shock!

In Edmonton you see a lot of woman wearing the hijab. In 20 years living in Alberta I saw only couple of woman wearing the niqab. But for me to meet face to face with a burka woman I didn't know what to do, or was I suppose to say something like "Hi". I was feeling very incomfortable.

Right away I started to feel sorry for her. Can you imagine wearing that outfit that nobody can't see you; they can't see the color of your hair and your eyes. And for her to always look with that mesh always in front of your eyes, for me it's absolutely wrong.

Muslims always say it has to do with their religion. I don't know, I'm not too sure about that. Me I'm thinking that it's certainly not the woman's choice to wear this tent with a screen. They are forced by their husbands and their family.

That's why since couple of years a lot of countries ban the wearing of the burka in public. In Canada we recognize the equality of men and women. I think the burka marginalizes women and it has absolutely no place in Canada.

In Turkey, it is illegal to wear a burka. In France & Belgium they are working on it right now to ban the wearing of burka in public place. And there will be more and more countries that will ban the burka because it's totally unfair for these women. It's living in a prison 365 days a year with absolutely no freedom of choice.

I hope that Canada will do something about it, that them too will ban these outfits. It is just common sense!!

Who is Ann Coulter?

It was a very busy week for a certain person. The name "Ann Coulter" was pronounced so many times on T.V., at the radio and in the newspaper. That name didn't ring a bell. I had no clue who this person was. Was she a singer, an actress or a talk show host?! Didn't know.

So I googled her. Here what I found:

Ann Coulter was born in New York City and is 48 years old. She is an American social and political commentator, author and syndicated columnist. She graduated from different universities with a B.A. in History, a J.D. from the law school, a training from the National Journalism Center. She had a bunch of important jobs like at the United States Senate Judiciary Committee. She is also author of 7 books and she also published a weekly newspaper column. She had spoken many times in television and radio talk shows. So as you can see Ann Coulter is a very educated lady.

So my question is: How an educated lady like her can have comments like this:

In one interview she said that "Canada should be grateful that the US "allows" it to exist on the same continent. Canada better hope that United States doesn't roll over one night and crush them."

She stated that all Muslims should be on a no-fly list. A student asked her what she should use instead of a plane and Miss Coulter answered that she should ride a camel or a carpet.

About Canadians she stated: "You guys used to be so cool. You were smokers. You had epic hockey fights. We had half our comedians from Canada. Now you're all a bunch of girls named Francois."

Ann Coulter said: "We should all be Christians. All Jews should be perfected."

A comment about gay men: "They are two things they can't do, get married to each other (they can in Canada and some American states) and "throw a baseball without looking like a girl".

There is probably other comments that I can find. But it isn't worth it. It seems like each time Ann Coulter open her mouth it's not to make a conversation, it is basically to make a provocation.

She is totally anti-Canadianism, super hostility toward the government, the culture and the people of Canada. So why did she included Canada in her "Speaking Tour". Probably some people will say that SHE was invited by the University of Ottawa. Yes it's true. But she has to understand that she has to be careful of the speech she's making when she's invited somewhere.

She told the medias that there is no freedom of speech in Canada. Yes there is, and sometimes too much. But it doesn't mean that Canadians will let her say what she wants.

My opinion, she deserved what she got in Ottawa. We don't need somebody to come to Canada and make anti-Canadian statement. Stay where you are if you don't like us. I hope it's a good lesson for all Canadian Universities and hope that NOBODY won't invite her anymore!

And VoilĂ !!!

I finally posted them! Yes the pictures of our mobile home makeover. These renovations took 6 months working part-time in evenings and weekends, but we are very proud of the result! All the rooms are here with ''Before and After'' pictures. Please be my guest and leave a comment! Enjoy!
BEFORE Front mobile home. I have to mention that the roof was completely flat when we bought the house. You can see on this picture that we already started the new roof.
AFTER Front Mobile Home. Everything was changed: new entrance on the left, new SolarBan windows and doors, new roof. The only thing left to do is to install the porch, deck and stairs railings.

BEFORE kitchen. This kitchen really needed an extreme makeover! As you can see everything needed to be gone, especially the marble mirrors that was all around the kitchen cabinets. Yep...scary. There was also blue carpets on the floor. No wonder that kitchen smelled so weird!!

AFTER kitchen. Welcome in my new 2010 kitchen! Totally upgraded white kitchen with modern look! Ceramic tiles, glass backsplash, new fridge, stove and microwave/fan to save space. The kitchen cabinets, handles and countertop are from Ikea. I would recommend the Ikea Kitchen cabinets to anyone who needs new cabinets. The hardware is fantastic and the installation is pretty easy. And their prices are pretty affordable compare to other stores.

BEFORE Living room. This living room was so crowded because the layout was really bad. There was a wall that separated the living room from the kitchen. There was a fireplace in the middle of the living room that was taking half of the space. On that picture the fireplace and the carpet was already removed.

AFTER Living room. It's an open plan open with the kitchen and the entrance/addition. It makes a huge difference in space. You can have a lot of guests at the same time and you don't feel crowded. It makes a big difference!

BEFORE Bathroom. That bathroom really looked 1970's. The wall still had wood panelling that was paint on top. The floor had an old linoleum and because there was no windows it was always dark.

AFTER Bathroom. That bathroom is a good size bathroom and includes laundry room too! Ceramic tiles on shower walls and floor, new vanity, laundry room cabinets, countertop, mirror, sink, taps, toilet, tub etc. etc. And I can't forget the nice window that give so much light!

BEFORE Entrance/Addition. As you can see this addition was used mostly for storage and entrance to go to the mobile home door. It was not insulated and the windows were made with plexiglass panels.

AFTER Entrance/Addition. This addition is not used as storage anymore but it is part of the mobile home. The dimension is 12' by 14' and bring an additional space of 168 sq.ft. It is totally insulated (walls and floor) and includes a huge closet, 2 windows facing the frontyard and backyard, 2 doors (entrance and backyard). The backyard door brings you to a deck. The floor is wood laminate and ceramic tiles. This part is open with the living room and separated by an arch.

BEFORE Bedroom. There was two bedrooms almost identical in the mobile home. As you can see it was the "1975 look"!

AFTER Bedroom. Totally renovated bedrooms ( i included only pictures of 1 bedroom). 2 closets and 2 windows in this one and a nice entertainment place with a nice fireplace and T.V. Both bedrooms have all the wires for cable and satellite. The floors are wood laminate.

BEFORE Hallway. The walls were made of wood panelling with a trim each 4' and was painted on top. The floor was covered with blue carpet.

AFTER Hallway. A nice neutral color with white trims everywhere and a nice wood laminate floor! There is also a brand new window and emergency exit door.
I hope that these photos gave you a little idea of what it looked like before. Now we can say that this mobile home is really comfortable, relaxing and bright.
You can leave your comments on this site or on Facebook! Hope to hear from you soon!

Back to normal!

Sorry if it took me a while to write about something else. My life was completely changed since September 1, 2009. My partner bought a very old 1975 mobile home situated in a mobile park close to our home. That was such a good deal that he couldn't resist. Having such talent at renovating almost everything, he decided that it would be a great idea to fix it and rent it for a while to our son.

The project started September 1, the day that we took possession of the place. We started to rip the outside at the same time that some were basically destroying some walls in the inside. At first we were suppose to do only couple of renovations: a new roof, new windows and doors, and new floors. But being constantly in the mobile home evenings and weekends we realized that it would be better to do little more. So my husband did little more. Oups! I mean a lot more!! Everything went to the dump. He kept the trailer metal frame, the furnace that was in excellent condition and the toilet that was changed before we bought the place. That's it! He redid everything from A to Z. It was not a project anymore; it was the construction of a brand new mobile home!!

It took exactly 6 months of evenings and weekends of hard work. It took our social life away for a while and it took our family time on the stand by. It was hard sometimes to manage working at the mobile home and doing all the chores at home too. A lot of time I was exhausted, even if I was basically just a helper. My older son and his friend did a lot too, even my little Alex came to help couple of times. But the most jobs were done by my hubby. He was the jack of all trade and he knew perfectly what to do. He's a genius when it comes to renos!

My son moved a week ago. For my part my job is done there. I bring back my apron and my old pair of running shoes that was there like a piece of furniture. Yep! now it's completely done. The final project is amazing and we are really proud of it! We transformed a 1975 mobile home to a 2010 mobile home!!

Now I have my life back at home. My routine came back to place. So weird because I didn't really know what to do. It was actually kind of boring. So Last Saturday we did a nice bonfire with good friends, good drinks and food. That was the best evening since long time and it was so so nice to socialize! We had a great time! Thanks everyone who showed up! That was really appreciated! I promise! I will not wait another 6 months for my next party!!

LOST AND FOUND

Vancouver is living at a different pace right now. The city is busy day and night for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Visitors/tourists from all around the world are there to cheer for their athletes and in their free time discover this beautiful city.

At least one time in their life people experienced losing a personal effect while vacationing. You see that situation quite often. You go in a restaurant and you realize later that you forgot your umbrella, your gloves, your glasses or even your wallet. For me I don't know why but I have this bad habit of forgetting my gloves everywhere.

But did you know that right now in Vancouver Public Transit System there is an increase in the number of lost goods?! Right now you are probably thinking the same thing as me; a lot of toques, gloves, cellular phones, some wallets and more.

But what I don't understand is how you can forget a dental retainer with a tooth still in it in a public bus? What the heck?! In a bus!! What were you thinking of removing that thing from your mouth in the first place!!! And what? You decide to put it slowly beside you on the bench?!! Come on!

You think I made up that story but NOOOO! It's the truth. The Vancouver Public Transit System stated that there were dealing with a massive mountain of lost treasures, including this dental retainer!!

Another even better on the list is an artificial limb! They didn't specify if it was an arm or a leg but can you believe that?!!! The guy got help from the bus driver to get in, got a seat and what?! he decides to remove his leg just to make himself comfortable, and Oups! Time flies and he realized he's at destination, so he walks down the bus, leave Mr. Limb behind and walks home perfectly fine!! Oh I see! It's the Magic Bus!! Woohoo! I can walk now!!

What kind of world are we living! Come on! There's no such thing as The Magic Bus, because if it would exist I would pop in and get out a few blocks away with a slim body, wrinkle free and no more beaver tail boobs!

But just thinking of it, that would be a better world, right?!!
Give me your comments!!!
